5454 Alloy Metal Aluminum Sheet Plate Features
- Al 5454 is non-heat-treatable aluminum and magnesium alloy. It is a medium-strength alloy that can be hardened (strengthened) by cold work; It is commonly used to manufacture welded structures, pressure vessels, and Marine services.
- The machining performance of Al 5454 is not satisfactory. It is best to use H-34 temper alloy processing. Oil-based lubricants are recommended, but very light cutting can dry; This alloy does have good hot – and cold – working properties.
- It can be readily cold worked under any tampering or annealing conditions.
- All commercial welding methods can be used in conjunction with Al 5454.
- The alloy cannot be heat treated except by annealing to reduce cold working.
- Although no temperature range data is available, the alloy can be hot forged.
- Hot-working can take place in the temperature range of 700 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
- Cold working using the alloy can be easily accomplished by conventional methods. Satisfactory cold working can be performed in an annealed state or in any 5454-h32 aluminum, H-34, or H-111 temper state. If cold working stress needs to be reduced, annealing can be performed at 650 F to allow sufficient time for thorough heating followed by air cooling.
- The conductivity is 32% of that of copper
- The shear strength varies slightly, from 23 Ksi in the annealing state to 26 Ksi in the H-34 state.
